6/25/11 - MEMORIAL
Harmony lost her battle on Thursday and her foster dad remained by her side.
She had stopped eating and her kidneys just could not keep going. The lepto
infection damaged Harmony's kidneys severely, beyond what they are able to
compensate for. Harmony was often very anemic because her kidneys were not
producing the hormone that makes red blood cells - she had to be given
frequent synthetic injections of this hormone by her foster dad. Harmony
also required several rounds of iv fluids to flush the toxins from her
system because her kidneys could not filter them. Blood work continued to
show a decline, although Harmony did have many good days over the past four
months. AABR would like to thank Harmony's foster dad for everything he did
for this sweet girl to give her a loving home. Thank you for remaining
by her side.
All who were lucky enough to meet Harmony were
touched by her gentle and loving disposition.

At the
end of February, Harmony's foster home noticed that she was drinking
excessive amounts of water and having frequent accidents. She was taken to
the vet for bloodwork and a urinalysis. The vet's office found that Harmony
tested positive for
Leptospirosis. Due to elevated levels on her bloodwork, further
testing was also completed to examine her kidney functioning. An ultrasound
revealed that extensive damage had been done. Harmony was kept on fluids
that week and sent home with new medications.
Following this visit, she showed a lot of improvement at her foster home.
Harmony has now finished all treatment for the leptospirosis, which is no
longer a concern. However, her kidney functioning will need continually
monitored.
Throughout this entire ordeal, Harmony has remained upbeat. She has a
charming personality - everybody that has met her has quickly fallen in love
with this sweet girl. She continues to wrestle with her foster brother and
she just loves any attention she receives.
Harmony is beginning injections this week due to being anemic. These
injections are very expensive, but she can not live without them. Once her
levels are stabilized, she will be weaned off of them. Harmony really needs
your help and support so AABR can continue to provide the care she needs.
Her prescription food, bloodwork, and injections have been a lot for the
rescue to absorb. Please consider sponsoring Harmony so we can continue to
give her the best quality of life possible. If you are interested in
providing a forever home to this sweet girl, we would be happy to discuss
her care with you!

Harmony
had a great time at the adoption event she recently attended. She
happily greeted each new visitor and met several dogs also. She would
do best in a home where there is someone home often, as she loves being with
her people! She also would really enjoy an active dog to play with.

Harmony
is now in a foster home and she is settling in well. She loves playing with
her boxer foster brother, Max. She is constantly giving him kisses,
especially when they play. Harmony would love a new home with a young male
dog that can keep up with her. She is doing really well in the crate
and her foster dad reports that she is a great wiggler! This sweet and fun
loving girl is going to be a wonderful addition to a lucky family!

Harmony
did great on her transport today! Included are some new pictures of this
beautiful girl. Harmony was very friendly with everyone she met and
shared lots of kisses. She traveled well in the car and just curled up
on the backseat to nap. Harmony seems to do well with other dogs - she
met Ivory on the transport and just wanted to play with her. This sweet girl
is in urgent need of a foster home where she will be able to gain some much
needed weight. Apply today to foster or adopt Harmony!
