AABR is very thankful for our foster homes and the wonderful care they provide. When Aiyana was diagnosed with renal dysplasia, her foster family learned they would have limited time with this wonderful girl. After just a month, Aiyana’s foster family had to say goodbye yesterday. Aiyana left this life being held in loving arms and she will certainly be missed.
After bloodwork revealed elevated renal values, a follow up ultrasound has given us very sad news for Aiyana. She has been diagnosed with congenital renal dysplasia. This is a hereditary defect in kidney development resulting in small, abnormally shaped kidneys that do not function well. Aiyana is currently on a prescription kidney diet, injections multiple times a week to help with anemia, and several medications for kidney support. The prognosis for Aiyana is guarded to poor. She is currently hospitalized at our vet’s office and on IV fluid support. She will then transition back to her foster home to be given a loving home for however long she will be able to remain comfortable.
Aiyana was surrendered to rescue when her owner had to relocate due to unforeseen circumstances. She is 3.5 yrs old and is great with other dogs, cats, and children. Aiyana was recently spayed and brought up to date on all vet care. She just arrived at her new foster home, where she is living with a male Great Dane, 3 cats, and a child. Aiyana is used to having a fenced yard and would love a forever home with another dog. She is housebroken and walks well with her harness. Aiyana is a sweet girl who is now looking for a forever family.
