12/03/17 – Memorial
Finian spent several days in a temporary foster home while we evaluated whether he could make the transport to Maryland for hospice. Finian ate well, but spent most of his time sleeping on the couch. There was swelling over his eye and bloody discharge from his nose. After just a few days, Finian began to cough up significant amounts of blood overnight and the decision had to be made to let him go at an emergency vet hospital. We were very saddened that Finian was not able to make the trip to the foster that was waiting to care for him, but we were thankful he spent his last days comfortable in a home and surrounded by love. Finian passed away with somebody by his side instead of alone in the shelter or in a kennel at the vet’s office.
Finian was found as a stray and appeared to be injured. He had swelling over his eye and was taken to the local vet to be evaluated. The vet estimated him to be around 8-10 years of age. Finian was Xrayed and sadly diagnosed with nasal cancer. The cancer was advanced and Finian was emaciated. AABR is hoping to transport Finian to a hospice foster placement in Maryland. Until we can better evaluate whether he is strong enough for the transport, a wonderful temporary foster home agreed to take Finian home and allow him time to respond to the medication, rest, and then reevaluate his condition.
