This is what rescue should be. Isys came in to the safety of rescue when her owner passed away. She was very well loved and cared for. Isys is very respectful with both large and small dogs. She absolutely loves children. Isys loves to play with balls and do boxer wiggles all throughout her new foster home. She will be easy to place in one of our homes who needed to wait for a really easy dog to come along.
When we as owners get a dog, they depend on everything from us. Some things like food, shelter, and vet care are obvious. But some things are just looked at by most homes as niceties, or a convenience. But socializing your 4 legged family member can be a matter of life or death for them… if for some reason you are not around for them, being a good dog can not be over emphasized. Isys’s owner did a great job socializing her. Her owner had no idea that she wouldn’t be around for Isys, but made it so much easier to find her a new home when it was needed.
If you have a pet right now and that pet could not have the same type of write-up as above, you are doing a disservice to them. And yes we get unsocialized dogs here in rescue, and yes it can make really nice dogs a lot harder to place them. It doesn’t matter how old your current dog is. They can and should be socialized and trained now… today… don’t wait. Their world will be shaken if they need to find a new home, but please make it as easy as possible for them.
