Romeo has been adopted. His wonderful foster mom, who happens to be the vet tech that has been caring for him since Romeo was rushed to the vet, has formally adopted this handsome guy. Romeo is loved by his mom, fur sister Rue, and two cats. Thank you all for helping to make this a happy ending.
This is Romeo, and he is lucky to be alive. Sadly at the age of 9, Romeo needed rescue. He needed Adopt A Boxer Rescue.
Romeo had lived with the same family since he was a puppy. He helped raise 2 children ,welcomed many new dogs and was a loving member of the family. Romeo’s life was forever changed when the family welcomed a puppy into their home.
Romeo watched while everyone in the family fussed over the new puppy. That new puppy grew to be over 120lbs by 10 months. Romeo willingly took a back seat to this new addition to the family as he has many times before. He was content taking naps and enjoying his mealtimes. All that changed when the new dog decided he did not want to share his home with Romeo.
This sweet distinguished gentleman was brutally attacked by the dog. Poor Romeo had to under go a 3hr emergency surgery while 2 veterinarians skillfully tended to his extensive bite wounds over his entire body. Hundreds of staples, and multiple drains were needed to stitch Romeo together. Wet to dry bandages are being changed daily to promote healing around his neck, ears and face. So brutal was the attack that he almost died. And an investigation by the authorities promised the arrest of Romeo’s owners should he return there and get so much as a scratch. Romeo’s owners could not guaranty another attack would not happen, but rather than rehome the 10 month old new dog, they chose to give up Romeo.
Romeo isn’t out of the woods yet. His eardrum was severely damaged during the attacked. He has more surgery to go through, and may be facing an extensive surgery in which his whole eardrum would be removed. Throughout this ordeal, Romeo has been a favorite of the docs and staff at the animal hospital. And, he has been good with all the other dogs he has met while there.
Adopt A Boxer Rescue has committed to his ongoing care, and we will find a great home for this friendly guy. For now Romeo is being pampered by the staff at Jericho Animal Hospital in NY. We will update everyone once we know more information from the animal hospital.
Please help us help Romeo by contributing to his extensive care and medical costs.
